God's Love Matters

Providing an Open Door

What is an "open door"?

We have referenced the concept of an open door a number of times. Therefore, I figured it would be good to write a little about this phrase and how it applies to spreading God's Word. In John 14:2, Jesus says, "In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?" Jesus is letting us know that we ALL have a place in Heaven through Him. Our temporary house is here on earth but our permanent home is with God. As an "open door," it is our role to provide people who have made the choice to be on the fence or do not believe with love and support and a way through which God can reach them.

By being an open door, it does not mean we have to drown everyone we meet with scripture and how they will go to hell if they are not a believer. Instead, it means that we are a conduit through which God can reach those who are not yet believers. When we embrace God's Grace and Love, we want to act in a way that helps others. By showing we care, we are showing that God cares. By referencing God's love we are indicating that we are believers.

There are millions of people throughout the world who do not grow up Christian or with any religious support group for that matter. They may have heard about Jesus and how God blesses people, but since they have not witnessed it they are very skeptical. Simple acts of kindness and interest in their lives can go a long way in helping to open a door through which the Holy Spirit can work to reach them. A little comment or action can go a long way. It could lead to that person being encouraged to Google passages from the Bible. Or it could allow them to be a little more open to learning about God at another time from you or someone who can answer more of their questions. We are not expected to be experts on God, but we are expected to share God's Love with others.

If you are not used to speaking up about God's impact on your life, then take it step by step. You are not expected to read this blog and start preaching the Gospel to everyone you meet. Instead, take time to pray to God that He provides you with opportunities to share His word. Then, remember to look for those opportunities and be an open door.

Over the last decade, I have come to realize the power of God's Love and created OneGod.info as a way to help share God's Love with others. I believe that many of you reading this are just like me ... Christian but passive. There is only one thing that is guaranteed in this life and that is God's Grace and willingness to sacrifice His Son so that we could join Him in Heaven. It does not matter what nationality, gender, or political party to which someone belongs. Our citizenship is in Heaven and our passport to return is simply to Love God, Praise Jesus, and Spread His Word!
