Jesus and the Holy Trinity

In our most recent post "The Birth as told by John," we addressed how important it was that John directly writes about the spiritual side of Jesus' birth. The concept of the Holy Trinity is difficult for many people. As a former teacher of mathematics, the analysis that makes the most sense is one that can be compared to a simple equation.

As humans, when we see or hear about three entities, we want to connect them using the equation 1+1+1=3. When this equation is applied, it is the perfect example of using flawed human logic. Just because on Earth we do not believe three things can be one, God is NOT of this world as He created it. Therefore, the more appropriate equation would be 1x1x1=1.

Unfortunately, we want to look at Jesus as a human. But, He was not human. He was God in a human's body/form. By living a human life, God was able to experience the world as His people do. Throughout the New Testament, Jesus makes a number of references that He is God and it is through Him that we will receive salvation. As the creator of the universe, it is easy to understand that His spirit resides in all of us and it is the Holy Spirit that helps us understand the life God wants us to lead. The difference between us and Jesus is how the Holy Spirit works within us.

God provided us all with free will. He did not want to control us but wants us to follow and love Him. With that, the Holy Spirit provides us all with enough guidance to be the "angel on our shoulder" encouraging us to follow God's word. Jesus, however, was filled with the Holy Spirit and was born with one mission ... to set an example for us as to how we should live and then sacrifice himself to save us from our sins. His body suffered the physical pain that all human bodies' suffer, but He was able to fight sin and preach to all people because He was and always has been God.

The Bible does not tell the story of three gods, it tells the beautiful story of how God created the world, lives with us, and lived among us.

Over the last decade, I have come to realize the power of God's Love and created OneGod.info as a way to help share God's Love with others. I believe that many of you reading this are just like me ... Christian but passive. There is only one thing that is guaranteed in this life and that is God's Grace and willingness to sacrifice His Son so that we could join Him in Heaven. It does not matter what nationality, gender, or political party to which someone belongs. Our citizenship is in Heaven and our passport to return is simply to Love God, Praise Jesus, and Spread His Word!
